The Barbone represents the only breed to have this size recognized, as provided by the official Standard and as such perfectly recognized and breedable, the height at the wither ranges from 24 to 28 cm with a tolerance of one centimeter,
This size was recognized only in 1984 therefore puppies, even if they are the offspring of toy parents, can have dwarf relatives and vice versa.
Being a bit shyer and more reserved than other sizes, it is good to start socializing the puppy at a young age, avoiding always carrying it and getting it used to walking on a leash with a collar! in all kinds of situations, running and playing with great care.
For this size, it is important to keep in mind that by purchasing a puppy of 60/90 days, you will bring home a "presumed toy" because at that age it is impossible to determine the size with certainty, checking that the pedigree lineage is mostly toy is a guarantee that increases the chances, but the only way to have certainty would be to get it at six months or older when growth is almost complete and the size is clearly visible and almost defined.
The following pathologies must be monitored:
PATOLOGY 1
Patellar luxation: unilateral grade 1 tolerance
PATOLOGY 2
Absence of eye diseases
PATOLOGY 3
Aseptic necrosis of the femoral head: radiographic control
Attention !!!! This size more than the others is a victim of market speculation, due to the high demand for very small size dogs unscrupulous breeders in recent years have focused on breeding it.
The result of this indiscriminate breeding is the presence of microscopic dogs with fur that is remotely curly and proportions that of the Barbone, the true one, they only share the name.
WE REMIND YOU that there are only four sizes, the various TINY TOY, TEA CUP, MINI TOY, do not exist!
These names are fantasy names used to attract unsuspecting people looking for a pocket-sized dog.
Also, the puppy that is born small or is the smallest of the litter is not necessarily going to remain smaller than the siblings; you must consider that puppies are often different and do not all feed the same way in the mother's belly, once born even the smallest one can catch up with the siblings.
Also, consider that the mother is often bred multiple times, but when labor begins, all puppies are born and therefore there may be puppies that are smaller because they had a shorter gestation.
In view of this, precisely because we want to be clear and transparent and do not like to deceive anyone, for those who want a certain size puppy, we allow adoption starting from 7 to 12 months, when we are certain that the puppy has finished its growth and the size is definitive.
Also very important is the lifestyle and diet (as for all dogs) from delivery to adulthood you will have to maintain a constant brand and type of food.
WARNINGS: be careful of heights, stairs, sofa, etc...
